AN ARMENIAN ODYSSEY

One day my aunts took me aside, urging me to firmly refuse to leave for Armenia. “Your father would never leave without you, so say you won’t go,” they reasoned. “Say you want to finish college here. We will back you and say you can stay with us.” When I followed my aunt’s advice, and told my father I would not go since I wanted to attend the Teacher’s College in Albany, he answered, “You know that I would not go without you. But just think if there is a chance that I could recover my eyesight, wouldn’t that be reason enough to make the move? Besides, you can attend college in Yerevan when all higher education is free.” So, even though Aunt Lusaber had assured me that if there had been any possible cure for Father’s eyesight, it would have been known in the States, I felt I could not shatter Father’s last hope of recovering his eyesight. With a heavy heart, I began to participate in the preparation for our move.
